Paul Rogers

Paul RogersIn the late 1980s, Paul Rogers was pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Horse Science at Black Hawk College.

More than three decades later, his connection to Black Hawk College and education remains strong.

As a BHC student, Paul was Reserve High Individual at the Quarter Horse Congress in 1987. After graduating with his associate degree, he transferred to Middle Tennessee State University—where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and was on a Champion Team both at the Quarter Horse Congress and Solid Gold Futurity in 1991.

He has worked with many notable trainers and famous stallions and shared his extensive experience and knowledge with others. He started coaching collegiate teams in the 1990s then nationally recognized youth teams in 2002.

Paul has coached 50 National and Reserve National Champion teams. He says it has been a joy to help many great students and young people reach their potential and have thriving careers while being their mentor and source of encouragement. Paul has helped his students earn scholarships totaling more than $200,000, and he finds pride in knowing he helped many of his past "kids" get an affordable education, all while helping build their confidence and work ethic.

More than 30 of his past students have attended Black Hawk College. Paul says Black Hawk College enhances young people's character, has excellent faculty, and has significant economic value for students and the entire region. Paul served on the BHC Ag Alumni Board for five years – two of those as treasurer. During that time, he served the college on multiple levels, working on the execution of the freshman scholarship, banquet promotion, and led the grants committee.

Paul said he felt honored and humbled to receive the Black Hawk College Outstanding Ag Alumni Award. He believes Black Hawk College remains an exceptional choice for "his" kids, and has a foundation to be an outstanding educational institution for decades to come.
