2026 Outstanding Ag Alumni Award Recipient
Dr. Dan Shike has been selected as the recipient of the Black Hawk College Agribusiness Club Outstanding Ag Alumni Award in recognition of his exceptional leadership, service, and contributions to the agricultural industry.
Building a Legacy in Agricultural Leadership
A proud graduate of Black Hawk College East Campus, Dr. Shike is the Head of the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Nationally recognized as a leader in beef cattle production and ruminant nutrition, he has dedicated his career to advancing the livestock industry through innovative research, outstanding teaching, and meaningful outreach to producers and students.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Shike has earned numerous honors for his excellence in research, teaching, advising, and service. He is widely respected for his ability to translate scientific research into practical solutions for producers while mentoring the next generation of agricultural leaders.
Giving Back to Black Hawk College East Campus
Despite his many accomplishments, Dr. Shike has remained deeply committed to Black Hawk College East Campus. He has generously supported transfer students, assisted with fundraising efforts, organized educational programs, and consistently shared his time and expertise with faculty, alumni, and students.
A Family Legacy of Excellence
The Shike family's connection to Black Hawk College reflects a legacy. Dr. Shike joins his wife, Jennifer Shike, a 2015 Outstanding Ag Alumni Award recipient. The Shike’s have three children: Olivia, Hunter and Harper. Their daughter, Olivia Shike, recently graduated from Black Hawk College East Campus and was named the Outstanding Agricultural Graduate. This fall, their son, Hunter, will begin his studies at Black Hawk College East Campus, continuing the family's proud tradition.
